Impacting Young Brides

Sahel Region

"Since I was first trained with Women of Impact Africa last year, I decided to change my strategy on how I was reaching the women. Instead of me going everywhere on my own, I decided to invite other women to be trained, and then I send them back out to their communities to reach the girls. This has helped me to have a wider impact. I also formed a WhatsApp group to be in constant contact with my people, giving encouragement and follow up. I have also learnt the importance of narrowing my focus and doing that one thing really well. My focus is now specifically on young girls that are forced to get married to older men around the ages of 14-16 years.

I have been able to identify their needs and different skills I can teach them that will help them as they become new brides. The men have started to see such positive change in these girls that they are now sending more girls to me and asking me to train them! This has opened the door for me to be teaching the girls practical skills as well as sharing Jesus love with them. We do Discovery Bible Study together while making necessary things like liquid soap.

Through the Women of Impact training I also learnt how to make reusable sanitary pads. I was able to go to a local school and teach the girls how to make sanitary pads. The teachers from the school were amazed at my generosity to do this, they said, “This should be something for you to make money for yourself, but you are teaching us instead!”
I have seen how I can demonstrate God's love through my generosity & teaching practical skills.

My desire is to have more of the Christian women from my community equipped through the Women of Impact training just like I was. This will help us to be more effective in forming a team and reaching more girls. Some of the villages we are reaching out to are very dangerous, so we really need God's protection & wisdom on how to share about Jesus with these girls.”
