Running the Race: A Story of Faith, Challenges, and Empowering Women
Africa
Since joining the Women of Impact (WIA) leadership team three years ago, Astrid has experienced a unique journey of transformation whilst being a catalyst for deep impact in the lives of many women across Africa. Her story is not only a witness to her faith and resilience but also a reflection of the heart that WIA has in empowering women across Africa to live as vibrant followers of Jesus.
One of her most inspiring stories is that of the woman leader in Tanzania. “She began as shy, somewhat fearful leader, yet through training, mentorship she has now become a brave minister of the gospel. She has also persevered to identify, train and build a strong team of women that are sharing God’s love with the vulnerable and least-reached women across Tanzania” says Astrid. The growth in this young leader’s life is an example of what is possible when women are valued, given the right tools and ongoing encouragement.
Astrid shares that over these last few years her own understanding of how much Jesus values women has been deepened. "I see it in the way He entrusts me with His work and His people,”she shared. “It’s a great sign of His love and trust. That motivates me to keep going, no matter the challenges.”
Astrid views her role as a coach, community practitioner and leader in WIA as both a privilege and a responsibility, knowing that her efforts are part of a larger mission. However, the journey has not been without challenges. Raising personal support has been a significant challenge, as well has coping with loneliness after being widowed a number of years ago. Yet, her deep faith and the encouragement of others continues to strengthen her to keep going. “God loves me so much that He equips and empowers me every day for this work,” she shared. “That keeps me from ever giving up.”
Another difficult part of her work has been sustaining the passion of the women she trains. While there is always much initial excitement during retreats and training sessions, that spark sometimes fades when women return to their daily lives. "I hope more women will see the Great Commission not just as a task but as a grace and privilege to be called to work for Jesus," she said.
Despite these challenges, her journey within WIA has been deeply fulfilling. She has witnessed young women rise to leadership roles and take action to lead women in their communities to Jesus. She has witnessed transformation in the lives of young girls who previously dropped out of school due to early pregnancy. These girls later returned back to finish their education and formed DBS (discovery Bible study) groups with other young ladies. She has witnessed widows who were once very vulnerable, go through micro-business training, form savings & loans groups, and meet regularly to pray and disciple one another. She has seen young girls and elderly women commit their lives to Jesus. These testimonies inspire her to keep going, knowing that her efforts are bearing fruit that only God can bring.
For Astrid, the work of WIA is more than just a ministry, it is a calling. Her journey is a reminder of the importance of faith, perseverance and actively living out our God-given potential.
We invite you to consider partnering together with Astrid by joining her prayer and financial support team. As a faith based ministry, WIA trusts God to provide for both the mission workers as well as the projects/ministries. In order for Astrid to continue effectively serving full time within Women of Impact Africa, she too is trusting God for her monthly support needs. Contact us for more details on how to do this.
